Houston News: Man in town for surgery on missing child

Ridge Cole, 28, was last seen near Brays Bayou at Texas Medical Center. “It’s the most unreal thing,” Shannon Foster, Cole’s aunt, told us.

HOUSTON — Texas EquuSearch volunteers were in the medical center area on Monday to help search for a man who has been missing since Friday.

Ridge Cole, 28, was in Houston for his 13-month-old son’s liver transplant at Texas Children’s Hospital. Cole, his wife and their son, River, were staying at Ronald McDonald House while the boy recovered from surgery.

Family members said Cole went out to smoke a cigarette and stroll along the bayou near Holcombe Boulevard on Friday evening. His phone, satchel and a shoe were found on the shore.

“We believe he tripped and fell in that water,” said Mark Edwards of Texas EquuSearch.

Family members also searched the area.

“It’s the most unreal thing,” Shannon Foster, Cole’s aunt, told us. “He would never disappear and let them know where he is.”

Edwards said they walked nearly 5 miles along the bayou and even used underwater sonar.

“Our hearts go out to this family,” Edwards said. “They already had a terrible experience with a liver transplant baby and now this.”

EqquSearch asks joggers, cyclists and kayakers in this area to watch it.

“We’re really desperate to find Ridge,” Foster said. “We need him.”

Cole is 5-foot-9, weighs approximately 175 pounds, and was last seen wearing a gray sweatshirt and dark gray sweatpants with an MTV logo on the left leg.

If you have seen him or have information about his disappearance, you are urged to call the Houston Police Department at 832-394-1840 or Texas EqquSearch at 281-309-9500.
